| When
The BGTA was established in 1949, the Association comprised
only a handful of Transport Operators, Lorry Owners and Operating
Agents. The BGTA was then registered under the Indian Companies
Act, 1956. After the approval of the Articles and Memorandum
of the Association, the BGTA then started to spread its wing
and formation of a full-fledged Association had begun.
Since
it inception in 1949, the BGTA has been making a lot of headway
and gaining a lot of ground. The Association initially progressed
slowly and barely perceptibly. Every year it added a few members
and today the BGTA is a formidable Association to be reckoned
with a member base of over 1,300 transporters. Today, it caters
to all the requirements of its members and is dedicated to
serving this nation better.
Judging
by the yardstick of the strength of its members and its excellent
performance over the years, as evidenced by the solidarity
of its members for the espousal of any problem that affects
the industry, the BGTA is undoubtedly the forerunner when
it comes to safeguarding the interests of the Transport Industry
Members and playing an important role in the advancement of
road transport.
The
day to day activities of the Association are carried out by
the secretariat working under the direct supervision of the
President, Hon. General Secretary and other members of the
managing committee. Besides, there's an advisory committee
consisting of past Presidents of the Association whose advice
is invariably sought on crucial matters concerning the transport
Industry.
Other
Sub-committees are also constituted every year consisting
of members with proven track records to deal with specific
issues like Traffic and Civil Affairs, Legal and Insurance,
Labour Problems, Membership Development and settlement of
claims of private parties and transporters vis-a-vis transporters.
The
Road Transport Industry has made a phenomenal and stupendous
progress and is now one of the most important industries of
India and following in its footsteps is the BGTA. The BGTA
has come a long way, much has been attempted in the past and
quite a bit has been achieved but much more remains to be
done to safeguard the property entrusted to the to the transporters
for transportation and to safeguard the interests of the members.
With
much gratitude we remember the doyens and veterans of the
transport industry who have ceaselessly tired and contributed
their mite for its progress, they've extended their co-operation,
advice and guidance to their members. Keeping their ideas
and ideals we strive to emulate them to thrive and forge ahead
to ensure that the wheels of the industry keep turning without
any roadblocks so that each day we may be farther on the road
that we're trying to cruising on.
